Audrey Borders, 2023-24 Intern
I entered the Eremos Internship seeking a richer walk with God, a fuller understanding of healthy relationships, and the needed tools and skills to walk with women who were trapped in sexual brokenness. I had recently retired and wanted to see what this next season of life could look like if I allowed myself to wholly serve Him and open myself up to deep, emotional and spiritual healing. Over this year, I have been overwhelmed by the personal challenges, encouragement, and love extended by all involved. Being in the safe community of those who have walked this path has brought me to a place of rest and confidence in my identity in Christ.
Through the years, I’ve walked alongside many women who were wounded by sexual brokenness but always knew there was a deeper level to their healing that I didn’t fully grasp. As I’ve engaged in my own healing with the mentoring, accountability, and encouragement through Eremos, I’ve learned to exchange my self-loathing for self-respect and to embrace my identity in Christ instead of wallowing in the lies I’ve lived with for decades. Since I have learned to receive love in a safe place and experience healthy relationships, I can now show that pathway to others. I have also come to understand the importance of a community of healthy believers and walking in God’s passion for others.
God allowed decades of trauma in my life so His grace and love could shine and set me free. My heart’s desire is to use my story as an example of God’s healing power to those broken by sexual trauma and to walk with women who have been broken by sexual abuse and/or partner betrayal and for those walking under the spirit of poverty. I am hoping and planning to continue in leadership at Mid-Valley Fellowship as long as God allows.
