Grant Burton, 2023-24 Intern
Prior to the Eremos Internship, I led not from a place of identity but from a place of uncertainty. I often made decisions simply because they had to be made and rarely felt confident or certain that God was in those decisions. I knew I had the ability to use my voice, be outspoken, and to gather people together to lead in various ways, but my leadership health, while not terrible, could have been better.
I set out to do the Eremos Internship because I was seeking ongoing personal growth. The internship was said to focus on personal growth and development for leadership in ministry. While development in leadership didn’t sound too bad, my main purpose was to follow God’s invitation and grow more as a person, a Christian, and as a man.
My experience in the internship has prepared me for service in the Body of Christ by giving me education in all kinds of different areas from how to address situations of self-harm to different theological stances on sexual brokenness. It has also equipped me with the understanding of manhood and identity that God has given me, which allows me to lead from a place of steadfast confidence in who God has made me to be and the good works he has prepared in advance for me to do.
As of now, I sense that God is leading me into seasons of challenge and leadership after internship. I have passions for sexual redemption, the outdoors, and ministries that reveal more of each person's identity and worth to them. While I do not know if these will be areas that I will step into after internship, I know that after internship, I am called to play a vibrant and powerful role in whatever area I step into next. There simply is no going back to the way I engaged in life before.
