Rita de Groen, 2022-23 Intern
After going through the Mending the Soul program, I joined the Support Programs team where I observed several Mending the Soul classes. That year, I emerged with a greater appreciation of what Mid-Valley Fellowship does to provide healing to hurting people. I knew I wanted to be part of this journey with others, and felt that the internship program would help me achieve that goal.
Initially I focused on how to lead Mending the Soul participants to healing with God who is our ultimate healer. I discovered the internship program teaches us effective life-long skills that are applicable to many areas of our lives, with an emphasis on a Christ-centered life.
The Eremos Internship program uses multiple methods of instruction and teaching. For me, one of the most helpful projects has been the Long-Haul project which teaches us about ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses; and it shows us how to be effective when interacting with others, and encourages us to know the vision we have for our lives. We explore the importance of staying healthy, both physically and spiritually; and as interns, we are encouraged to be role models for those going through programs, and to prioritize maintaining our sexual and relational integrity.
Next year I would like to continue being involved with the Support Programs; and I have an interest in providing individual counseling on a part-time basis, as well. I am blessed to be part of the Eremos Internship Program. The experience has been life changing!
